What is Salbakos?

“Salbakos” is a name inherent in the Anatolian Region and it is derived from a word originated in the Luwian language. Mentioned in many places as Babadağ, Salbakos has been known with the city names established on it in the form of “Herakleia Salbake”, “Apollonia Salbake” since the Hellenistic Period. With Laodicea established to the east, Antiokheia established to the north, Aphrodisias to the east and Herakleia Salbake to the south and Apollonia Salbake within Tabai Plain, it is a historical heritage which is a cradle of civilization. 

When examined in general, Salbakos is the name of entire Akdağ. In terms of historical remains, 400-500 million year-old fossil and fillat layers located at the lower part of Ornaz Valley in Denizli and the remains at the mountain and its near surroundings are the life traces coming from the past to the present.
